Conversation over breakfast

Sarah’s employer is hosting a gamejam this weekend, to raise money for Mind.

Yesterday we woke up, and had breakfast while she was talking about it, wanting to watch the stream on twitch. But with work being quite busy, and having done a few jams [1] [2] in the past, neither of us signed up for it this year. Game jams can be quite tiring after all. That is with a full time game dev job, it sometimes feels like work.
While I was drinking my morning espresso, I asked about the theme for this year.
“It’s ‘periodic’” Sarah said.
“What does periodic mean?” I asked. “I know it is related to repeating time, like waves, but there’s also the periodic table. Why is it called that?”
“Good question, I don’t know, English can be weird like that.”
We started coming up with some silly ideas, like a ducks vs frogs towerdefense game, holding off waves of frogs. And a fat duck dance game. Haha, imagine their little feet wiggling xD.

Sarah told me she just wanted to draw some silly things. But since she always ends up doing art direction and production, due to her experience as a lead, she didn’t want to join a team this year.
I jokingly said “we could just make a team on our own, it’d be quite funny to make something small and silly.”
“Hahaha, yeah it would be. Imagine that!”
I run over to my computer
“Do you really wanna do this?”

And we started jamming.
